My name is Jeff Appleyard and I’m looking forward to sharing my love of Cumbria and the Lake District with you.
I live in the south of the county overlooking Morecambe Bay and close to the village of Cartmel with its amazing history, foodie culture and Priory. Having lived in Cumbria for over 25 years I have come to know every corner, assisted by having also hiked extensively and been to the top of each of Wainwright’s 214 ‘fells’. I can show you some of the less well known areas and the hidden corners.
I am happy to guide the whole of Cumbria and my specialist areas are Cartmel and Furness peninsulas and the whole of the Lake District.
My particular interests are Cumbria’s amazing heritage, food and farming, landscape, industrial history, especially that of the Leven Valley as well as Cumbria’s amazing array of Abbeys, Priories and churches and chapels and Historic Houses. I also enjoy the literary links of the county, particularly Beatrix Potter, John Ruskin and William Wordsworth to name but a few.
My tours are generally bespoke, developed according to your particular interest or starting point, and can be tours involving walking, driving, rail or boat, or a combination! I can be your guide for your coach or minibus tour and I can also offer chauffeur-driven tours.
In my spare time I volunteer as a Morecambe Bay Marshal walking across the sands with the Queen’s Guide; and as a Steward and Guide at Cartmel Priory and also at Holker Hall.
So please make contact so that I may share my love of our historic heritage, vibrant villages and supreme scenery that has inspired generations of visitors.
