Guiding Fees

Our guiding fees are set in line with those recommended by the British Guild of Tourist Guides. However, each guide is free to negotiate their own rate within the given range according to the client’s requirements and in consideration of other factors such as travelling distance, duration, specialist knowledge and language spoken.

Guideline guiding rates 2026-27

For the services of a guide on a walking tour, or in a coach or other vehicle provided by the client:

Full-day rate

(4 to 8 hours) from £375

Half-day rate

(up to 4 hours) from £230

Driver-guiding rates

... which include the provision of an appropriately licensed and insured vehicle, mileage and parking/toll charges, are in the range of £780 - 860 (full day) and £550 - £595 (half-day) within Cumbria. For tours out of the county, expect to pay between £880 - £975 per day. (The above illustrates charges for tours starting and finishing in Cumbria and are only indicative of the likely rates for specific services. We specialise in tailoring itineraries to suit your interests and preferences.)

Foreign language rate

There is likely to be an extra charge of around £45 for a full-day tour and £30 for a half-day tour.

For unsociable hours, there may be an additional charge of between £50 and £70 per hour.

Cancelling a tour

10 days prior to commencement of engagement 50% of fee

4 days (96 hours) or less prior to commencement of engagement 100% of fee

Similarly, when an extended engagement tour is cancelled with less than one month’s notice, the guide is entitled to claim 50% of the daily touring rate if alternative work on the same dates is not offered.
